-- Coverage of all 800+ U.S. lighthouses. --

With extensive coastlines on the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Pacific Ocean, and the Great Lakes, the United States has over 800 lighthouses to warn vessels of danger and guide them to a safe harbor. Mariners no longer rely on lighthouses like they once did, but many of these historic structures have found a second life as tourist attractions.

This app provides information for every historic, standing lighthouse in the United States, along with several replicas and lightships - all visited by the author. While a few privately built lighthouses, such as those on Grand Lake St. Mary in Ohio, are included, these are just bonuses and not the primary focus of this app.

By using the apps 13 filtering functions, users can quickly discover which lighthouses are open for climbing, which are easily accessible, which have museums, and even which have appeared in movies or are reportedly haunted.

Lighthouse guidebooks are outdated as soon as they are printed, as hours and contact information change and lighthouses are destroyed. (The latter doesnt happen too often, but we did lose 2 lighthouses to hurricanes in 2012.) This app is regularly checked and updated to provide the most thorough and accurate information possible. The apps 800+ entries include detailed descriptions, historic images, and helpful links - all for the price of less than 1 cent per lighthouse. Additional historical background will be added for many Michigan lighthouses, but these already have information essential for your visit.
